- Authorized to supervise staff under his charge and to take all measures within the scope of the position to install, operate and maintain the ship’s electrical/electronic systems and associated equipment in a safe and efficient manner
- Carry out installation, maintenance and repairs on electrical and electronics systems and machinery both in the Engine room and elsewhere as directed.
- Draw up and follow the planned maintenance system approved by the Chief Engineer for all equipment under his charge.
- Manage the inventory and control of all spares, stores and tools under his supervision with reports on their status to the Chief Engineer
- Maintain records of work done and testing of machinery on a daily basis and/or as directed.
- Participate in the upkeep and maintenance of safety equipment as instructed by the Chief Engineer and Chief Officer/Staff Captain. (Mainly for the electrical components of such equipment).
- Participate in pre-arrival and departure tests of machinery and equipment and to be on stand-by duty in the engine room during stations.
- Assist Chief Engineer in preparation and execution of surveys on electric and electronic related equipment within continues machinery items.
- Ensure that the operation and maintenance of electrical installations, including cabling and HV installations, are kept at a high standard and in accordance with applicable Class rules
- Maintain an awareness of environmental and energy efficiency aspects and impacts as relevant to your role, and act as departmental environmental and energy efficiency representative if required (where applicable to the vessel ISO accreditation standard).
