Projects:

  • I am currently carrying out a project at the Aguas Andinas company to migrate a Schneider M340 PLC to a Schneider M580 PLC, communication and configuration in Allen Bradley ControlLogix PLC and modifications and configuration in Factory Talk View HMI. As a result, I hope that the client will have control of the entire Plant, its analysis and optimization of its processes.
  • Foxboro's “Series I/A” Distributed Control System scheduled preventative maintenance was successfully completed during customer-scheduled plant shutdowns for maintenance work, resulting in reduced downtime due to plant equipment failure and a 10% increase in plant efficiency.
  • The project for the design, development and installation of a new remote monitoring software, which we call “RemoteMT”, for the Distributed Control Systems created together with the Schneider Electric Colombia Engineering team, was successfully completed. This allowed us to view the Plant's operation in real time from anywhere in the world via the Internet and respond immediately to any failure or anomaly, which translated into a 15% increase in the operational efficiency of the maintenance service by achieving a decrease in Plant downtime and greater customer confidence in our services.
  • In regular maintenance contracts that were carried out for many clients, assisting every day of the week in the field and providing telephone support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, predictive and corrective maintenance of the control systems was carried out and exhaustive failure analysis of complex problems was completed looking for the root cause of the failure, which resulted in an increase in the performance of the process equipment and a decrease in downtime due to equipment failures, and with all this, it was possible to increase the operational efficiency of the clients' plants by more than 20%.
  • Migrations of DCS, PLC or HMI control systems were successfully completed, both in their hardware and their software, achieving with this, that the plants increased their operation and their production by being controlled by more modern and effective control systems, which resulted in an increase of more than 25% in production efficiency.
  • The upgrade of our Distributed Control System, its hardware and software for all our clients was completed with very good results, which increased the Plant's production performance by 10% by being controlled by more efficient systems with greater processing speed.
  • Migrations were carried out from the classic Foxboro DCS to the virtualized Foxboro DCS with multiple domain controls. The installation and configuration of Servers with Windows Server operating systems, the creation of virtual control system equipment through the Hyper-V application, the configuration of its ACN and Mesh networks with their respective switches, the performance of its FAT and CAT tests and finally its start-up was successfully completed, which resulted in a 40% increase in the Plant's safety by reducing accidents that occurred on the way to and from the Plants of operators, supervisors and contractors, since the virtualized DCS allows remote operation and control from the city of Santiago, as a client did, or from any physical location. With this, the flexibility of the control system was also increased by being able to access and control the DCS from any geographic location through a laptop or PC accessing the virtualized DCS using the Plant's VPN.

Projects:

  • A project for the addition of a new cement packaging line and migration of the HMI at the CEMEX Plant, Dominican Republic was successfully completed. This was done on an existing Siemens S7-400 PLC by adding I/O cards in available slots and migrating a General Electric Cimplicity HMI to a Siemens WinCC Flexible HMI. This was done by purchasing the new hardware we were to use, developing the control logic, hiring local instrumentation personnel who made the connections of the I/O signals, continuously supervising the hired personnel, installing and configuring the new HMI. Then functional tests were performed and it was successfully launched, resulting in a 35% increase in production by having one more product packaging line.
  • A project for the addition of a boiler feed line with an alternative fuel at the CEMEX Plant, Dominican Republic was successfully completed. This project was designed using a Controllogix PLC, PowerFlex VDFs and a PanelView Plus, all from the Allen Bradley line. To do this, I developed, together with the client, a document with a detailed description of the new process they wanted to implement, configured the control logic in the PLC, designed the PLC electrical cabinet and all its components, hired instrumentation personnel to install the equipment and connect the cabinet, supervised the hired personnel, configured the VDFs, PlanView Plus and the communication networks between all the equipment. Then the functional tests were performed and it was put into operation perfectly, which resulted in a 30% decrease in the total cost of fuel used to feed the boilers, since the alternative fuel was much cheaper.

Projects:

  • Successfully migrated 4 obsolete Siemens Step 5 PLCs to 4 Allen Bradley CompactLogix PLCs controlling oil viscosity on 4 Wärtsilä power generating engines and installed 4 new PanelView Plus to control each engine. For this, the control logic was migrated to the Compactlogix PLCs, the viscosity control loop parameters were adjusted, the communication network was configured, the operation screens were designed in the PanelView Plus using the Factory Talk View Site Edition software from Rockwell Automation. Then, functional tests were carried out and the engine was started up in stages, one engine at a time, which were all successful, which managed to increase the stability of the oil viscosity in each engine and increase the performance by 10% in each one of them.
  • A Daniels Gas Chromatograph and Flowmeters from the Emerson company were configured and calibrated, and the data communication was configured from these to the EFM SCADA used by the AES Gener Power Plant, Dominican Republic. For this purpose, the field instruments were configured and calibrated using Emerson's MON2000 software, the data transmitted by the instruments was converted from RS485 serial to Ethernet by installing a converter, and the existing SCADA was modified by adding new screens to read the new data from the field instruments. This increased process optimization by the Plant's engineers and process analysts by being able to view all the data from the field instruments and take action.
  • An automation project for the slurry preparation process at the Unilever Plant, Dominican Republic, was developed. This included programming the process and installing a new HMI. This was done by adding new I/O cards in available slots of an existing Allen Bradley PLC 5. The control logics were configured in the PLC, the new I/O signals were connected to the PLC cards that were tested and commissioned. Two workstations were installed where the Wonderware InTouch SCADA software was configured, with which all the new operating screens were designed, the communication drivers between the PLC and the SCADA were configured, functional tests of the system were performed and it was put into operation, which resulted in a 40% increase in the operational efficiency of the Plant (this process was done manually before automation) and a 25% increase in the quality of the manufactured product by being able to control its production.
  • The control system for the mills and kiln at the CEMEX Plant in the Dominican Republic was migrated from a Foxboro “I/A Series” DCS to an Allen Bradley ControlLogix PLC and an FLSmidth Cement ECS/Process Expert SCADA. To do this, the control logic of the DCS was configured to the PLC and the screens of the same DCS to the SCADA, the communication between them was configured, local instrumentation personnel was hired for the installation of the PLC with all its components and its connections. The hired personnel were supervised, the I/O signals were commissioned, the functional tests were performed and the project was started up in stages due to the magnitude of the project, which were all successful, achieving the total satisfaction of the client who, from the corporate central management, demanded the change of control system to standardize its Plants throughout the world
